Whenever I want to challenge my palate with an incredibly bold and flavorful smoke, I spark up a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero cigars. I love the diversity of Dominican tobaccos; many people think that leaf from the Dominican Republic is only mellow, but the Double Ligero proves that Dominican tobaccos can be so much more flavorful than many would expect.
The blend starts with perfectly aged long filler and binder tobaccos grown on La Flor Dominicana’s La Canela farm in the Dominican Republic. These tobaccos are harvested from the very top of the plant, called the ligero priming, and the leaf from this part of the plant is soaked in sunlight and brimming with nutrients. A line extension of the famous LFD Ligero, as the name suggests the ligero tobaccos in the fillers have been doubled up for an even richer kick. These ligero leaves are then joined by a top-shelf Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper available in both EMS and Maduro shades.
The EMS version with its vibrant full-bodied tapestry of pepper, zesty spice, coffee, wood, cinnamon, and sweet tobacco notes that show impeccable balance along with their boldness. With the darker Maduro blend, I get added nuances of chocolate and earthiness that pair wonderfully with a rich chocolate dessert.
